Welcome to Jaisalmer - The Golden Safar
Nestled in the heart of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer stands tall as the "Golden City" of Rajasthan. With its iconic golden sandstone architecture, vast stretches of dunes, and rich cultural heritage, it’s a destination that truly embodies adventure, history, and charm.
This is the story of my first trip to Jaisalmer—a four-day journey full of thrilling escapades, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable memories. Join me as I take you through every moment of this golden adventure.
A Glimpse of History
Founded by Bhati King Jaisal in 1178 AD, Jaisalmer was once the pride of the Bhati Rajputs. Today, it is one of Rajasthan’s most sought-after tourist destinations, often referred to as the "Andaman of Rajasthan" because of its captivating charm amidst the barren Thar. Despite being the largest district in Rajasthan in terms of area, it boasts the lowest population density, making it a serene escape.
Day 00: Journey into the Desert
The adventure began as we boarded the "Invincible Tour" bus from Ahmedabad at midnight. The group comprised 43 excited travelers, led by our lively guides, Pankaj Solanki and Rahul. As the wheels rolled, introductions turned into laughter, and Antakshari (a musical game).
After traveling overnight, we stopped in the morning at Tiger Restaurant and Resort, where we had tea and breakfast and freshened up. From there, we were supposed to visit the War Museum, but it was already lunchtime, so we headed for lunch first.
For lunch, we stopped at Payal Hotel, where we had a simple meal of vegetables and roti. Our lunch experience was average.
Day 01: Journey into the Desert
Morning Stop: Tiger Restro & Resort

We reached Tiger Restro & Resort early morning to freshen up and enjoy a piping hot breakfast. While we were scheduled to visit the War Museum first, hunger steered us to Payal Hotel, where we had a simple yet satisfying lunch. Afterward, we visited the War Museum
The War Museum: A Tribute to Heroes

The Jaisalmer War Museum is a testament to India’s glorious military history, especially highlighting the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The exhibits, types of weapon, diffrent ranging from tanks to personal letters of soldiers, offered a heartfelt glimpse into their bravery.
Bada Bagh: A Photographer's Paradise
Our next stop was Bada Bagh, an ancient garden complex with royal cenotaphs. Bathed in the soft golden hues of the setting sun, this spot gave us plenty of postcard-worthy photographs.

Camping Under the Desert Sky
As night fell, we reached our campsite. Pitching tents under the star-studded sky and dining without electricity added a unique touch to the experience. The silence of the desert and the cool breeze made this a perfect ending to our first day.

Day 02: Desert Adventures and Cultural Treasures
The day began early with warm-up exercises, followed by a surprise Zumba session led by Ekta Ma’am. What better way to start a chilly desert morning than with some lively Garba!
Sunrise in the Thar
Watching the sunrise from the campsite was magical. The golden rays kissed the dunes, creating an ethereal glow. After soaking in this serene moment, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast of upma and tea.
Desert Trekking, Quad Biking & Camel Safari
The adrenaline rush kicked in as we embarked on desert trekking. From navigating the sandy trails to quad biking over dunes, every moment was packed with adventure.
But the highlight was the camel safari. Riding atop the "ship of the desert," swaying gently across the dunes, gave us a true taste of Jaisalmer’s charm.

Exploring Khabha Fort and Kuldhara
Post lunch at the campsite, we ventured to Khabha Fort, an architectural gem offering panoramic views of the desert.
Our next stop was the mysterious Kuldhara, a haunted abandoned village shrouded in local legends. Though eerie, the history and legends surrounding this village left us intrigued.
A Night by the Campfire
The day ended with a lively campfire session. From antakshari to sharing ghost stories, the night was filled with camaraderie and laughter. We stayed up until 1:30 AM, making memories under the sparkling desert sky.
Day 03: Thrills, Sunsets, and Celebrations
The final day of the year started with a warm-up and another stunning sunrise. After breakfast, we prepared for the most thrilling experience of the trip—jeep safari! Speeding across the sand dunes in open jeeps was nothing short of exhilarating.
Parasailing: A Bird’s Eye View of the Desert
For the first time, I experienced parasailing, soaring above the desert and taking in its vastness from the sky. The thrill of being airborne was indescribable and undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trip.
Sam Sand Dunes & Cultural Night
As the golden hour approached, we visited the Sam Sand Dunes to witness the last sunset of the year. The breathtaking view left us in awe, reminding us why Jaisalmer is called the Golden City.
The night was capped off with a cultural program featuring Rajasthani folk dance, music, and traditional Garba. Welcomed with a traditional ceremony, we feasted on authentic Dal-Baati and celebrated the New Year with cake and cheers.
Day 04: Exploring Jaisalmer City
On New Year’s Day, we explored the city of Jaisalmer.

Jaisalmer Fort and Patwon Ki Haveli
The magnificent Jaisalmer Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, left us spellbound. Its intricate architecture, bustling bazaars, and the guide’s engaging storytelling brought history to life. At Patwon Ki Haveli, we marveled at the intricate carvings and clicked endless pictures.
Gadisar Lake: A Tranquil Escape
The trip concluded with a serene boat ride at Gadisar Lake. Surrounded by temples and ghats, this man-made lake was a peaceful retreat after days of adventure.
Local Flavors and Shopping
No trip to Jaisalmer is complete without tasting its local delicacies. We relished the famous Fateh Singh’s Kachori and Dal Pakwan before diving into the vibrant markets. From Bandhani textiles to handcrafted leather goods and jewelry, the markets offered treasures to take back home.

Memories to Treasure Forever
This trip wasn’t just a journey; it was an experience that etched golden memories in my heart. From thrilling adventures like parasailing and jeep safaris to cultural immersion through music and dance, Jaisalmer truly had it all.
Every sunrise, every dune, every story shared by the campfire—we lived every moment to its fullest.

My Experience in Jaisalmer

And with this, our journey to Jaisalmer comes to an end. For me, the Jaisalmer trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I didn’t just visit Jaisalmer; I truly lived it.
This was my very first trip, and it turned out to be the most memorable one. During this trip, I made new friends and had unique experiences. For the first time, I tried parasailing, which was the most thrilling and unforgettable part of the Jaisalmer trip for me.
The most adventurous experience was the jeep safari. That thrilling jeep ride is something I’ll never forget. The camel safari was also a delightful experience. But the best moments of the trip were watching the sunset and sunrise—it felt magical.
Finally, a big thank you to Invincible Tours for making this trip possible, and a special thanks to our volunteer Rahul Sir and team leader Pankaj Solanki Sir for guiding us throughout.
